Coastal Path Counselling
Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that starting counselling can raise questions, about how it works, what to expect, and whether it’s right for you. This page is here to offer clear, honest answers to the most common questions we’re asked, so you can feel more informed and at ease as you take your next steps.
1
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. You’ll have the opportunity to share what’s brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it. I’ll explain how I work, and you’re welcome to ask any questions. There’s no pressure, it’s about finding out if we’re the right fit for working together.
2
Do I need to have a specific issue to come to counselling?
Not at all. Some people come with a clear concern, like anxiety or grief, while others come with a general sense that something doesn’t feel right. Counselling can also be a space for personal growth, reflection, or gaining clarity in life decisions.
3
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no fixed number. Some clients benefit from short-term counselling, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll review how things are going regularly and work at a pace that feels right for you.
4
Is everything confidential?
Yes , confidentiality is a core part of the counselling relationship. What you share in sessions stays private. There are some rare legal and ethical exceptions (e.g. if there’s risk of serious harm), which I’ll explain clearly in our first session.
5
I’ve never had counselling before and feel nervous, is that normal?
Absolutely. Starting therapy can feel daunting. It's completely normal to feel unsure or nervous. I aim to create a warm, supportive space where you can feel safe enough to be yourself, at your own pace.
6
Do you offer online sessions?
All sessions are currently held online until the Coastal Path Counselling therapy centre is complete. Online therapy provides a flexible and confidential way to access support from the comfort of your own space, anywhere in the UK.
7
Do you offer concession rates?
I believe therapy should be accessible. I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for those experiencing financial difficulty. Please feel free to ask, I’ll always handle it with understanding and no judgment.
8
What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
Life happens, I understand that. I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less notice may still be charged, unless due to emergency or exceptional circumstances.
If there’s something we haven’t covered here, please feel free to get in touch. Whether you're unsure about starting therapy, have a specific need, or just want to talk things through first — you're very welcome to reach out. There’s no pressure, just a safe space to ask what you need.
